Hello and welcome to my nature photography website!

I’m a wildlife and landscape photographer from Boise, Idaho with a love of the outdoors.  I’ve been on countless backcountry adventures, conducted years of scientific wildlife ecological research, and indulged in nature photography along the way. These lifelong endeavors have taken me around the upper midwest, across the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains and Pacific Coast, as well as into Canada and Alaska. Many of these pursuits required getting close to wildlife and the places they live, through which I developed a growing interest in nature photography.

When I shoot wildlife photos, I try to capture a short snippet of animal life in a single shutter click. I look for photo opportunities that are more ecological where images show interactions among animals, or between animals and their environment. This often requires more patience than capturing an animal’s portrait or zooming out to shoot the animal in their environment. Such ecological interactions would include a kingfisher with a catch, an osprey harassing a bald eagle where their territories overlap or a bugling bull elk keeping a watchful eye on his harem of females during the mating season.

Shooting landscape images is an enjoyable challenge to my creativity. My intent in this facet of photography is to convey the emotion of a scene through the lighting and details of the composition. Examples in my portfolio include the meditative abstract nature of moss covered pines on the Oregon coast, Wyoming’s Grand Teton ominously shrouded in winter clouds, and the serenity of the early morning light across the Owyhee River Valley in eastern Oregon.

Other than my fine art images, I make minor exposure, color, and light corrections when post-processing my photographs. I’ll also crop borders and remove dust spots. I will sharpen some images and reduce noise (grain) at times. My images aren’t generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). I don’t add or move objects around in my compositions, nor do I replace skies. All animal interactions and behaviors that I capture in my photos are shot as they happen in one shutter click not “manufactured” afterwards. No shots are staged. I find that learning about my subjects, knowing my gear and its limitations, being patient, and persevering through missed shots and less than ideal conditions gets me more rewarding “keeper” images. Of course, the more I’m “out there”, the luckier I’ll likely be too.

I have built this website to share my images. I welcome your feedback and questions. You can send those to me via the Contact page on this site.

You may also contact me for print options and prices if you’re interested in purchasing any of my photos. Above all, I hope you enjoy viewing my images as much as I enjoy taking them and sharing them with you.

Thanks for having a look at my work.

Yes, that's winter camouflage I'm wearing. Camoflage in general works in many, but not all instances. It allows you to get closer to wildlife AND critters come back sooner after they are flushed.
